SUMMARY

International students are generally allowed to participate in research at universities, but specific funding sources may impose restrictions. Research opportunities funded by organizations like the Department of Defense require US citizenship. Therefore, while many campus research positions are accessible, international students should verify funding eligibility for each opportunity.

PREREQUISITES
  • Understanding of university research policies
  • Familiarity with funding sources for academic research
  • Knowledge of visa regulations for international students
  • Awareness of citizenship requirements for specific research grants
NEXT STEPS
  • Research university-specific policies on international student participation in research
  • Investigate funding sources and their citizenship requirements
  • Learn about visa regulations affecting international students in research roles
  • Explore alternative funding opportunities that do not require US citizenship
USEFUL FOR

International students, university administrators, and academic advisors seeking clarity on research participation eligibility and funding restrictions.

Yes. Most research work on campus are open to all students unless it is funded by certain organizations (such as the Dept. of Defense) that require US citizenship.
