New environmentally friendly glass materials are emerging, but creating cathode ray tube (CRT) monitors with 100% eco-friendly glass presents significant challenges. The inherent properties of CRT technology, particularly the use of cathode rays, complicate the feasibility of such materials. Additionally, the weight and cost of CRT monitors made from green materials would likely be prohibitive. The discussion highlights skepticism about the practicality of producing modern CRTs in an environmentally sustainable manner. Overall, the consensus leans towards the idea that it is unlikely to work effectively.

I see new environmental friendly glass materials coming in the future. Is it possible for companies to make new cathode ray tube monitors with 100% green environment friendly glass materials. How will this work?

Welcome to the PF.

Unfortunately, there is one big hurdle in the way of making an environmentally friendly CRT glass envelope. Can you say what that is? The clue is in that acronym "CRT"...

It just won't.
Apart from having some problems regarding the side effect of cathode rays, I would be the first to protest if anybody would try to force me giving up half of my desk to host one (three) of those CRT monsters.

Just imagine how much THIS would weigh (and cost) if created with a CRT.

I need to anneal 5052 aluminum for a home project. Google has given me mixed results on how to do this. Short version is that I'm doing some heavy forming on a piece of 5052-H32 and I'm running into issues with it work hardening. I've tried the Sharpie trick with a propane torch. But I'm not sure this is doing anything. I'm also seeing conflicting opinions whether to quench or air cool. So I'm looking for some expert opinions. (Oven heating is not an option due to size.) Thanks. edit: The...
