Other Books on the Physics of Climate Change

AI Thread Summary
A user seeks a comprehensive textbook on climate change that incorporates advanced physics and mathematics, emphasizing the need for a deeper scientific understanding. They express frustration with existing materials that lack mathematical rigor. In response, several resources are recommended, including a collection from Springer and a specific Springer book focused on climate science. Additionally, a children's version and a popular science book by Lawrence Krauss are mentioned, though these may not meet the user's advanced criteria. The user expresses intent to explore the suggested Springer book further.

Hello,

I'm looking for a textbook on climate change that is not afraid to use advanced physics and mathematics (thermal/statistical physics, differential equations, fluid dynamics, etc.). Too many textbooks on the topic shy away from the mathematics, preventing me from obtaining a deep understanding of the science.

Thanks.

I found two possible ones and there may be more if you search around a bit:

https://www.springer.com/us/climate

and a Springer book:

A kids version ala 9-12 yr olds:

https://www.amazon.com/dp/194747300X/?tag=pfamazon01-20

and a Lawrence Krauss pop science book:

https://www.amazon.com/dp/1642938165/?tag=pfamazon01-20
I'll take a look at the Springer book. Thank you!

Hi, I have notice that Ashcroft, Mermin and Wei worked at a revised edition of the original solid state physics book (here). The book, however, seems to be never available. I have also read that the reason is related to some disputes related to copyright. Do you have any further information about it? Did you have the opportunity to get your hands on this revised edition? I am really curious about it, also considering that I am planning to buy the book in the near future... Thanks!
I’ve heard that in some countries (for example, Argentina), the curriculum is structured differently from the typical American program. In the U.S., students usually take a general physics course first, then move on to a textbook like Griffiths, and only encounter Jackson at the graduate level. In contrast, in those countries students go through a general physics course (such as Resnick-Halliday) and then proceed directly to Jackson. If the slower, more gradual approach is considered...
