Discussion Overview

The discussion revolves around building a simple motor for a class project, focusing on finding suitable instructions and materials. Participants share links to various resources and discuss the feasibility of different motor designs, particularly avoiding homopolar motors.

Discussion Character

  • Homework-related, Exploratory

Main Points Raised

  • One participant requests simple instructions for building a motor using basic materials like wire, batteries, and magnets.
  • Another participant provides links to several resources for building motors, suggesting they are easy to follow.
  • A participant expresses that one of the suggested designs does not work for them and specifies that they cannot use homopolar motors.
  • A question is raised about the possibility of removing insulation from very thin wires for use in the motor.
  • Another participant suggests using fine sandpaper to remove insulation, while also advising on the stiffness of the wire for winding.

Areas of Agreement / Disagreement

Participants have differing opinions on the suitability of the suggested motor designs, with some expressing that certain designs are too complicated or not applicable. There is no consensus on a single set of instructions that everyone agrees upon.

Contextual Notes

Participants have not resolved the issue of which motor design is the simplest or most effective, and there are varying levels of experience with the suggested methods.

so my class is going to build motors tomorrow, and we will have about an hour to build a simple motor, and we are supposed to find instructions for building a motor. Can someone give me instructions for building a simple motor, probably with wire, batteries and magnets, and other materials should be simple ones i should have.

i need simple instructions for a simple motor. i found this one,

but if you think it is good, or have simpler or better ones please say so.

well the first one doesn't work for me. i forgot to say, but it can't be a homopolar motor or whatever it means so i can't just do the first one. i already found the first and second but, second needs supplies and first seems to be a little more complicated than the beakmens one

if my teacher has very thin wires will i be able to take off the insulation?

you can use fine sandpaper. Just make sure the wire is stiff enough to support the winding.
