AI Thread Summary
To calculate golf ball backspin in RPM based on speed and launch angle, it's important to understand the relationship between these variables. A typical drive at around 140 mph can produce backspin rates of 50 to 60 rotations per second, which is crucial for maximizing distance. However, specific formulas or methods for calculating backspin at varying speeds and angles are not readily available. The discussion highlights a need for average backspin measurements rather than precise calculations. For further exploration, resources on the physics of golf may provide additional insights into this topic.

Calculate golf ball backspin??

Hi,

Just wondering if anyone could tell me the best way to calculate the approx backspin (rpm) a golf ball given ball speed and launch angle figures?

Or just how to go about getting average backspin measurements of balls hit at different angles and speed? It doesn't have to be super accurate just averages and approximations.

Thanks in advance.

Andy.

Thanks but there's nothing really on how you could calculate the amount of spin with different launch angles and speeds.

Thanks i'll have a look.

anyone else?

I have recently been really interested in the derivation of Hamiltons Principle. On my research I found that with the term ##m \cdot \frac{d}{dt} (\frac{dr}{dt} \cdot \delta r) = 0## (1) one may derivate ##\delta \int (T - V) dt = 0## (2). The derivation itself I understood quiet good, but what I don't understand is where the equation (1) came from, because in my research it was just given and not derived from anywhere. Does anybody know where (1) comes from or why from it the...
