Calculating % Yield of Ester in Chemistry Lab

Click For Summary
SUMMARY

The discussion centers on calculating the % yield of ester in a chemistry lab when the reaction is allowed to reach equilibrium without removing products. It is established that the % yield will be lower when the reaction is allowed to equilibrate, as not all reactants are converted into products. The key point is that the yield is relative to the amount of reactants that remain unreacted at equilibrium, highlighting the importance of understanding reaction dynamics in yield calculations.

PREREQUISITES
  • Understanding of chemical equilibrium principles
  • Knowledge of esterification reactions
  • Familiarity with yield calculations in chemistry
  • Basic grasp of reaction kinetics
NEXT STEPS
  • Research the concept of chemical equilibrium in detail
  • Study the principles of esterification reactions
  • Learn how to calculate % yield in chemical reactions
  • Explore the impact of reaction kinetics on product formation
USEFUL FOR

Chemistry students, lab technicians, and educators looking to deepen their understanding of reaction yields and equilibrium in organic chemistry.

% yield ester

I'm having a problem with my chemistry lab report. the question is: What would the % yield of ester be if the reaction were simply allowed to equilibrate (i.e. no products are
removed)?
I think the the yield is going to smaller but i don't know why.
pls help

If the reaction mixture is allowed to reach the equilibrium, are all reactants converted to final products?

relative to what?

You think the yield will be smaller relative to what? Relative to Stopping the rxn early?
