Can a 2' Multicolor LED Strip Be Powered by Two CR2032 Batteries?

SUMMARY

Using two CR2032 batteries to power a 2' multicolor LED strip is not feasible due to the voltage and current requirements of the LED strip. The CR2032 batteries provide an open circuit voltage of 3.0V and a maximum continuous current of 6mA, which is insufficient for LED strips that typically require between 5V to 24V and can draw currents ranging from 2400mA to 7200mA. Instead, it is recommended to use Zinc-Manganese Dioxide (Zn-MnO2) batteries, commonly known as Alkaline batteries, which can better meet the power demands of LED strips.

I want to run a 2' multicolor LED strip with 2 CR2032 batteries. Is this possible?

What is the terminal voltage of a CR2032 button battery? What is the A*hr capacity rating of a CR2032? What is the input voltage and current specified on the datasheet for your LED strip?

Do you know how to build/use buck and boost DC-DC converters?
 
Not for long.
The CR series batteries are designed for very low current application with a few years usable life.

You would be better off using Zinc-Maganese Dioxide (Zn-MnO2) batteries. They are commonly called Alkaline batteries. The smallest I know of are the size "N" cell, about 30mm long x 12mm dia.

Open Circuit: 3.0V

Nominal Capacity: 245mAh @170uA and 2.0V cutoff

Hi Tom. Thanks for speaking in a way I can understand. I’m looking to power the strip for a couple of hours. Just wondering if this is even possible. I’ve found a case that holds 2 CR2032s and has wires leading out. Wondering if the wires could be connected to a 2’ strip of LEDs. Thanks again for getting back to me. Lyle

The round shape of the CR2032 is perfect for what I need. I’m not sure how I could mount the N. Thanks
 
I agree with Tom.G
First, in my opinion, CR 2032 supplies 3 V and Led strip requires-5 to 24 V -depending on type.
The load current for LED strips may be 2400 to 7200 mA but CR2032 capacity it is only 235 mAh that means 235/3600=0.06528 mA that means if itsupplies a 0.06528 mA load the voltage will be only 2 V [minimum level] in an hour.

CR2032 resistance Rdc≈15 kΩ and LED Strip load resistance is 3/7.2=0.417 Ω that means a short-circuit for CR2032.
