Homework Statement


In the question that we were given it states that the resulting collision is a completely inelastic collision. Then it asks us to solve for the momentum and kinetic energy.

For the momentum part I have already solved it and have values for final and initial velocities that I know are right. What I don't understand however is how we are supposed to find the change in kinetic energy here because the only formula I could find for "completely inelastic collisions" was ΔEk = max value.

My question is, what would the "max value" equal to (or represent) in the equation ΔEk = max value?

Ma = 1.0
Ma = (1/2)Mb
Via = 5.0m/s
Vib = 0m/s
Vf = 5.0/3.0 m/s (found through momentum calculations)

The change in KE is simply the final KE (calculate it) minus the initial KE (calculate it).
