Suggestion Could PF Benefit from Simulposts in Multiple Subforums?

AI Thread Summary
The discussion proposes the idea of implementing simulposts in multiple subforums on Physics Forums (PF) to enhance cross-disciplinary engagement. It highlights a specific thread that covers both anthropology and medical sciences, suggesting that simultaneous posting could attract experts from both fields. The proposed change would involve transitioning from a folder system to a labeling/tagging system, allowing threads to be categorized under multiple topics. This modern approach could increase visibility and interaction but raises questions about the demand for such a significant change. Overall, the concept aims to improve the forum's functionality and user experience.

Hmmm.. I am not sure how many times this situation has occurred on PF. It just came to my attention. Here we have a https://www.physicsforums.com/showthread.php?t=503986" with definite cross-discipline subject matter. On the one hand, anthropology and at the same time, medical sciences.

Here's a thought:
I wonder if the PF code could be tweaked for simulposts to more than one subforums. Then this thread could be published in more than one sub-forum and posts would be automatically updated in all the sub-forums the thread exists)? That way, people with expertise in each of the subforum areas would be more inclined to read as well as address the thread.

This could be done by switching from treating the subforums as folders, to giving threads labels/tags. It would be a big change.
What would be possible then, is that threads can have more than one label, and that opening a subforum lists all threads with that label. I am not sure if there is enough demand to make such a large change to the forum. But it would be a quite modern idea. For an actual example that I know of: Gmail switched to using labels for messages instead of folders some time ago.

I want to thank those members who interacted with me a couple of years ago in two Optics Forum threads. They were @Drakkith, @hutchphd, @Gleb1964, and @KAHR-Alpha. I had something I wanted the scientific community to know and slipped a new idea in against the rules. Thank you also to @berkeman for suggesting paths to meet with academia. Anyway, I finally got a paper on the same matter as discussed in those forum threads, the fat lens model, got it peer-reviewed, and IJRAP...
About 20 years ago, in my mid-30s (and with a BA in economics and a master's in business), I started taking night classes in physics hoping to eventually earn the science degree I'd always wanted but never pursued. I found physics forums and used it to ask questions I was unable to get answered from my textbooks or class lectures. Unfortunately, work and life got in the way and I never got further the freshman courses. Well, here it is 20 years later. I'm in my mid-50s now, and in a...
