To create a basic robot that follows a person, an IR emitter can be attached to the individual, while the robot uses two IR sensors to control its left and right motors. The concept is similar to existing products like autonomous golf caddies that follow golfers. For beginners, researching existing designs and components can provide valuable insights into building such a robot. While the user expresses uncertainty about their ability to construct it, the discussion emphasizes the feasibility of the project with the right guidance. Overall, the idea of a simple following robot is achievable with basic components and some research.

I need to make a basic robot (two wheels, two motors, etc.) follow me or a sensor, that will be attached to me. How would I do this? For example, I can have an IR Emitter on me and like two IR sensors on the robot; one that controls the left motor and one controls the right motor. I don't have any experience making robots so forgive me if I don't understand. Can I accomplish this?

I'd start by looking at the golf bag carrier things that follow their golfer around the course. I'm pretty sure I've heard of them, but don't know for sure if they exist. I'll try looking...

EDIT -- like this one I found with a google search on golf cart follows you

Cool, i checked out the link and it's sort of what I had in mind. But I don't know if I can build it. Any ideas of how I can do it?

What mathematics software should engineering students use? Is it correct that much of the engineering industry relies on MATLAB, making it the tool many graduates will encounter in professional settings? How does SageMath compare? It is a free package that supports both numerical and symbolic computation and can be installed on various platforms. Could it become more widely used because it is freely available? I am an academic who has taught engineering mathematics, and taught the...
