Dark Energy & Strings: Does Hooke's Law Apply?

Dark energy is said to be a property of space that stretches a volume of space in all directions.If space is made of strings, do individual strings expand in all directions? And since the universe is changing its expansion rate, do strings obey some law like Hooke's Law:force (tension) is proportional to extension?
