Dark Matter vs Modified Gravity: Uncovering New Theories

Click For Summary

Discussion Overview

The discussion centers on the comparison between Dark Matter and Modified Gravity theories, exploring potential alternatives to Dark Matter and examining specific models such as TeVeS and MOG (Modified Gravity) proposed by John Moffat. The scope includes theoretical considerations and critiques of existing models.

Discussion Character

  • Debate/contested
  • Exploratory
  • Technical explanation

Main Points Raised

  • Some participants suggest exploring Modified Gravity theories as alternatives to Dark Matter, questioning the validity of Dark Matter due to its lack of direct detection.
  • Others argue that Dark Matter remains the most popular theory, citing issues with Modified Gravity models like TeVeS, which has its own criticisms.
  • One participant raises the MOG theory by John Moffat, suggesting it does not require Dark Matter and likening it to non-existent concepts like ether.
  • Another participant seeks clarification on MOG, noting it as an example of TeVeS theories and expressing difficulty accessing related links.
  • There is a suggestion to search for additional resources on John Moffat's work, indicating a desire for more information on the topic.

Areas of Agreement / Disagreement

Participants express differing views on the validity of Dark Matter versus Modified Gravity theories, with no consensus reached on which approach is more viable or preferable.

Contextual Notes

Some claims rely on specific definitions and interpretations of theories, and there are unresolved issues regarding the criticisms of Modified Gravity models and the accessibility of related resources.

Dark Matter was never found, what Modified Gravity theories should we check now?

What you think about MOG Modified Gravity theory from John Moffat?
he don't need the Dark Matter proposal that may be same like ether, non-exixting

Your link didn't work for me. (Probably better to post a link to arxiv rather than post the PDF directly)

To my understanding, John Moffat 's MOG is an example of the TeVeS theories that @pervect mentioned above.
