Database for chemical and physical properties

AI Thread Summary
The discussion centers around finding reliable online resources for the chemical and physical properties of common substances, including heat capacity, enthalpy of formation, and boiling points. Participants mention several websites, with PubChem and ChemSpider being highlighted, though some users express dissatisfaction with the depth of information available on these platforms. The NIST webbook is recommended as a valuable resource, while others note that many comprehensive databases are behind paywalls. Users also share specific examples of substances like potassium bicarbonate, discussing the challenges in finding detailed data and the limitations of certain websites. Overall, the conversation reflects a need for accessible and detailed chemical property information online.

Do you know any website where I can find chemical and physical properties of common substance (heat capacity, enthalpy of formation, boiling point ecc...)?

Thanks
Ric

This sire might be more what you're looking for:

http://www.chemspider.com/

Mhm I found it earlier, but no. It lacks lot of information like enthalpy of formation and heat capacity.

I used to know an amazing website, but I can't remember its name

In general best databases are behind a paywall.

Of course, but I though properties of common substances (i.e. CO2, K2CO3, H2S, HCL, stuff like that) would be easy to find. Wikipedia has a some nice stuff, but I am looking for a little bit more informations.

That's the website I used to use, thanks!

But I think KHCO3 is not that common after all  guess I'll have to go to the library...

That site has a lot of information, just not what you are looking for.
Melting Point: Decomposes before melting

http://www.sciencelab.com/msds.php?msdsId=9927398
All it says is "irritant", "avoid contact", "wear respiratory equipment", and CAS# 298-14-6

http://www.chemicalbook.com/CASEN_298-14-6.htm
Plenty of background info. Melting Point 292C

https://www.scbt.com/scbt/product/potassium-bicarbonate-298-14-6
Their MSDS shows:
Melting: 100C
Boiling: 333.6C
Flash Point: 169.8C
Pay attention to MSDS section 11. TOXICOLOGICAL INFORMATION

Many more if you search on the CAS 298-14-6, just not the info you are looking for.

Good Luck!
