In summary, Peter is looking for advice on how to include a small diagram - say 1/4 to 1/3 of the size of an A4 page - into a post. He is not sure where else such a question belongs. Jameson is most helpful and provides a process and software for Peter to do this.

Some time ago I posted the following:

"Can someone give me an idea of how to include (the scan of) a small diagram - say 1/4 to 1/3 of the size of an A4 page (thus not the whole page) - into a post - in such a way as the diagram is visible to the reader - that is he/she does not have to open a pdf file.

(I know that this is not exactly a "Latex" question, but I am not sure where else such a question belongs.)

Peter "

I got some helpful answers and began to use the Irfan image editor.

But now I am at a different location and only have access to a Mac.

All I want to do is select a small portion of an A4 pdf and post the selected text as a PNG file in a post - but (really strangely given Mac's reputation) I cannot find software for this simple task.

Can anyone suggest software and a process to do the above.

Hope someone can help.

Peter

My main computer is a Macbook Pro laptop. If you have the PDF file on your computer then you can simply take a screeenshot (which will save as a PNG) and include that. To take a full screenshot, hit Command+Shift+3 and to take a partial screenshot, hit Command+Shift+4, then use the cursor to select the portion of the screen you want to save. It should make a PNG file that saves to your desktop.

Does this help?
