if light is elctromagnetic wave, and magnet emits magntic waves, why can't i make an influence on the light?

magntic waves, if I'm not mistakening, are the field which all the rays are connected to, and not acting as elctromagnetic waves (rays). so a magnet should influence that field

thank you
