Electric Currents, Magnetic Fields

In summary, electric current is the flow of electric charge through a conductor, measured in amperes (A) and caused by the movement of electrons. Electric currents and magnetic fields are closely related, with an electric current creating a magnetic field and a changing magnetic field inducing an electric current. Common sources of magnetic fields include permanent magnets, electromagnets, and electric currents. Magnetic fields are measured using a magnetometer, which can detect strength and direction. Practical applications of electric currents and magnetic fields include generators and motors, medical imaging, telecommunications, and transportation systems.

Hi

Everyone seems to know what magnetic fields are and that they are caused by electric currents, but i can't seem to find a good reason WHY they are caused by lectric currents.

Thanks, appreciated

god knows :) what kind of good reason do you hope? But if you mean HOW, that is easy.

Magnetic force exists thanks to relativistic transformation of electric force. See special theory of relativity to learn more about this.

1. What is an electric current?

An electric current is a flow of electric charge through a conductor, such as a wire. It is measured in units of amperes (A) and is caused by the movement of electrons.

2. How are electric currents and magnetic fields related?

Electric currents and magnetic fields are closely related because an electric current creates a magnetic field and a changing magnetic field can induce an electric current. This phenomenon is known as electromagnetism.

3. What are some common sources of magnetic fields?

Some common sources of magnetic fields include permanent magnets, electromagnets, and electric currents. The Earth also has a magnetic field due to its molten iron core.

4. How are magnetic fields measured?

Magnetic fields are measured using a device called a magnetometer. It can detect the strength and direction of a magnetic field and is often used in scientific research and navigation.

5. What are some practical applications of electric currents and magnetic fields?

Electric currents and magnetic fields have numerous practical applications, such as generators and motors, which use the interaction between them to produce electricity and mechanical motion. They are also used in medical imaging, telecommunications, and transportation systems.
