Electrolyte capacitor in circuit simulators like TINA and nl5?

Click For Summary
SUMMARY

The discussion focuses on simulating electrolyte capacitors in circuit simulators such as TINA and nl5. For most DC or low-frequency applications, a standard capacitor model suffices. However, for high-frequency signals and large capacitance values, it is essential to refine the model by incorporating a large shunt resistor to simulate leakage and a small series inductance. Additionally, some manufacturers provide SPICE models for their components, although specific availability for TINA and nl5 was not confirmed.

PREREQUISITES
  • Understanding of capacitor models in circuit simulation
  • Familiarity with TINA and nl5 circuit simulators
  • Knowledge of SPICE simulation techniques
  • Basic concepts of electrical leakage and inductance
NEXT STEPS
  • Research how to implement large shunt resistors in TINA simulations
  • Explore the use of series inductance in capacitor models
  • Investigate the availability of SPICE models from capacitor manufacturers
  • Learn about high-frequency circuit simulation techniques in nl5

how do you get an electrolyte capacitor in circuit simulators like TINA and nl5?

How accurate a simulation do you require? For most DC or low-frequency purposes, any old capacitor model with the appropriate value will do. For large capacitance values with high-frequency signals present, you can further refine the model with a large shunt resistor (to simulate leakage) and a small series inductance. Beyond that, some component manufacturers make SPICE models of their parts available, but I don't know about the two you mention specifically.
