SUMMARY

The discussion centers on the Seitz radius, denoted as r_s, which quantifies the radius of a sphere containing one electron per sphere on average for a given electron density. The relationship is defined as r_s = r/a_0, where r is the sphere's radius and a_0 represents the Bohr radius. The Seitz radius is particularly relevant in the context of the homogeneous electron gas and is frequently referenced in publications related to density functional theory.

PREREQUISITES
  • Understanding of the Seitz radius in electron density contexts
  • Familiarity with the Bohr radius (a_0)
  • Knowledge of density functional theory
  • Basic concepts of homogeneous electron gas
NEXT STEPS
  • Research the applications of the Seitz radius in density functional theory
  • Explore publications on homogeneous electron gas models
  • Study the derivation of density functionals in quantum mechanics
  • Investigate the implications of electron density on material properties
USEFUL FOR

Physicists, materials scientists, and researchers in quantum mechanics focusing on electron density and its implications in theoretical models.

I am looking for data on the coefficient [tex]r_s[/tex], which is related to the radius of a sphere such that, for a given density of electrons, there is one electron pers sphere on average.

I have seen it expressed as [tex]r_s = r/a_0[/tex] where r is the radius of the sphere and [tex]a_0[/tex] is the bohr radius. Does the coefficient have a name? Is there a resource online for reading up on it?

That parameter is named Seitz radius. It is mainly used in publications dealing with the homogeneous electron gas (e.g., derivations for density functionals).
