AI Thread Summary
The discussion centers on a person's experience with Electromagnetic Hypersensitivity (EHS), characterized by severe symptoms attributed to exposure to RF and ELF fields. They have relocated to a clean environment to avoid electromagnetic sources and are exploring shielding options, specifically MU Metals and PermAlloy, to mitigate ELF exposure. However, responses indicate skepticism about the physical basis of EHS, suggesting that the symptoms may be psychological rather than caused by electromagnetic fields. The conversation also notes that the reported signal strengths are too low to likely cause physical effects. The thread was closed for moderation, reflecting the contentious nature of the topic.

Hello dear reader,

a brief introduction:

Some 4 years ago someone started developing health related issues, apparently due to exposure to RF & ELF related frequencies and/or fields (Magnetic). This is currently becoming known as EHS. (Electromagnetic hypersensitivity is a claimed sensitivity to electromagnetic fields, to which adverse symptoms are attributed.) She experiences a deep burning sensation throughout her entire body, leaving her in pain and exhausted after a pulse has occurred. So now they are in the cleanest possible location, meaning no power lines or cell towers, etc. in the vicinity.

We know how to block the RF signal(s) used for Phone, WIFI & other things through RF mesh shielding, so now we are looking into ELF/EMF shielding.

What I've gathered it seems to be a pulse signal that appears around every 3 hours, and is fluctuating in strength during these occurrences between 0002. and 0005. V/M

I am reaching out to anyone in the community that has experience or is well versed in the matter of EMF/EHS and shielding materials, to get as much information as I possibly can about MU Metals / PermAlloy and their ability to shield objects from ELF signals/EM fields

I don't know if anyone on here has encountered this specific application of MU metals / Permalloy metals before, but any information you could share would be greatly appreciated.

kindest regards

Welcome to PF.

The observations you report are inconsistent with what we know about the physical world. While it is possible to screen a human body with electrical and magnetic conductors, it is more likely that the placebo effect would be in play, as the observed symptoms appear to be psychological, not physical.

That is a well known phenomena and belief in some people. It is the origin of the "tin foil hat" that similarly screens the body.

Those are very tiny signals, and not likely to cause any physical effects.

Folks here at PF have lots of experience with EM shielding for normal applications. Here are a couple links that you may find helpful in your searching:

And with that, this thread will remain closed.

Hey guys. I have a question related to electricity and alternating current. Say an alien fictional society developed electricity, and settled on a standard like 73V AC current at 46 Hz. How would appliances be designed, and what impact would the lower frequency and voltage have on transformers, wiring, TVs, computers, LEDs, motors, and heating, assuming the laws of physics and technology are the same as on Earth?
While I was rolling out a shielded cable, a though came to my mind - what happens to the current flow in the cable if there came a short between the wire and the shield in both ends of the cable? For simplicity, lets assume a 1-wire copper wire wrapped in an aluminum shield. The wire and the shield has the same cross section area. There are insulating material between them, and in both ends there is a short between them. My first thought, the total resistance of the cable would be reduced...
I used to be an HVAC technician. One time I had a service call in which there was no power to the thermostat. The thermostat did not have power because the fuse in the air handler was blown. The fuse in the air handler was blown because there was a low voltage short. The rubber coating on one of the thermostat wires was chewed off by a rodent. The exposed metal in the thermostat wire was touching the metal cabinet of the air handler. This was a low voltage short. This low voltage...
