Engaging Middle School Students in Science Experiments: What Works Best?

My name is scienceklutz because I am a new science teacher in middle school. My students just love my failed experiments and activities and we have a good time trying anything. I will post a question next, the reason I joined this forum. I imagine, it will not be the last question either! So thank you everyone for your continued expertise and advice.
