What Role Does the Higgs Boson Play in the Universe's Inflation?

Click For Summary
SUMMARY

The Higgs Boson particle, specifically its associated field, is theorized to play a role in the inflation of the universe, a phase characterized by rapid expansion in the early universe. Discussions highlight that while there are theories linking the Higgs mechanism to inflation, the validity of these ideas remains uncertain. Participants suggest researching "Higgs inflation" for more comprehensive theories and insights. The conversation emphasizes the need for precise references when discussing theoretical concepts.

PREREQUISITES
  • Understanding of the Higgs Boson and its associated field
  • Familiarity with cosmic inflation theories
  • Basic knowledge of particle physics
  • Ability to interpret scientific literature and theories
NEXT STEPS
  • Research "Higgs inflation" theories in scientific literature
  • Study the Higgs mechanism and its implications in cosmology
  • Explore the concept of cosmic inflation and its historical context
  • Investigate peer-reviewed articles discussing the relationship between the Higgs Boson and inflation
USEFUL FOR

Physicists, cosmologists, and students interested in the intersection of particle physics and cosmology, particularly those exploring the implications of the Higgs Boson in the context of the universe's inflation.

Hello,
I have read somewhere that the Higgs Boson particle (or field) is responsible for the inflation of the universe. Does anybody have more information?
Thanks.

google "higgs inflation" to find some theories which probe this theoretical space

"I have read somewhere" gives us no guidance on what it is that you have read or where can we find it. "I have read something somewhere, but won't tell you where or exactly what, but want more" is an impossible question to answer.

There are some ideas how the Higgs mechanism (but not the particle) could be related to inflation, a phase of very rapid expansion of the very early universe. It is unclear if these ideas are correct, and I don't see how a [b]-level thread could go into details.
