Discussion Overview

The discussion revolves around finding a BPSK (Binary Phase Shift Keying) modulator circuit or IC chip for a project. Participants explore resources, circuit elements, and provide references related to modulation techniques.

Discussion Character

  • Homework-related, Technical explanation

Main Points Raised

  • One participant seeks assistance in locating a BPSK modulator circuit or IC chip, expressing confusion about the available options.
  • Another participant asks about the original poster's background and learning materials, suggesting a reference to Wikipedia for basic understanding of PSK.
  • A suggestion is made to consider the Gilbert cell as a fundamental circuit element for modulation, along with a reference to MiniCircuits for application notes on mixers.
  • A participant mentions the LM1496 as a basic Gilbert cell mixer chip but notes that circuit skills are required to use it effectively.
  • There is a request for a complete circuit diagram, which is met with a response emphasizing the importance of independent research and learning.
  • Further guidance is provided to search for application notes related to the LM1496 on the National Instruments website.

Areas of Agreement / Disagreement

Participants do not reach a consensus on the availability of a specific BPSK modulator circuit or IC chip, and the discussion reflects a mix of guidance and requests for further information.

Contextual Notes

Participants express varying levels of familiarity with the subject, and there are references to specific components and resources, but no complete circuit is provided. The discussion highlights the need for individual effort in research.

Welcome to the PF. What is your background? What class is this a project for? What learning materials are you using to understand modulation in general, and PSK in particular? Here is a basic reference about PSK:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BPSK

One fundamental circuit element that can be used for modulation is the Gilbert cell. Check out the App Notes on Mixers at this MiniCircuits.com page:

http://www.minicircuits.com/pages/app_notes.html

The old LM1496 is the basic Gilbert cell mixer chip, but you will need some circuit skills to use it. The simplest thing might just be to buy a mixer module from MiniCircuits...

help

 thanks for your reply. but i can't find the circuit. can u please send me the complete circuit instead?

Nope. You need to do the legwork -- that's what a project is for. To help you learn about the subject, and to learn how to find information and use it. I'll give you a little push in the right direction, though... Go to www.national.com (the National Instruments website) and do a search on LM1496. That will give you several application notes, etc., on how the part is used for modulation. In case you have trouble getting there and doing the search, here's the hit list:
