The Caption Competition thread is currently leading with over 733,000 views, making it a strong contender to reach one million views first. The Thread Killer Champions, despite having a high view count of 673,860, is unlikely to surpass this milestone due to its recent lock. Discussions highlight the surprising popularity of threads like "Really Expensive Cat Toy," which has garnered over 400,000 views, likely due to its appeal in Google searches. The forum members speculate on the reasons behind these view counts, including the influence of search engine results and the nature of the topics discussed. The ongoing competition among threads reflects the dynamic engagement of users and the potential for threads to go viral.

There may be more views than normal during the upcoming (US) holiday weekend, so I predict Memorial Day will get the 1 Millionth view.

Holidays are usually low traffic times for PF especially if the weather is nice.

Oops!

Pray for rain? Actually, I don't need any more rain. It has been raining her for part or most of every day for over a week.

Close. It will probably hit 980 k this evening, and give it at least two day, perhaps 3, to hit one million.

There was a surge after TEPCO announced their view that the cores of units 1, 2 and 3 probably melted very early in the event after the loss of power.

News from Japan, or commentary elsewhere in the world regarding the effects of Fukushima on various national nuclear programs, are determining factors on the thread activity. Of course, we have a fair number of members analyzing various aspects of the event.

I thought it only fitting, given that PF has attracted new members who have contributed greatly to this subject and others (I am not sure, I didn't check, hehe) to post the users with 100 + posts to this thread. Congratulations for your hard work, and for creating a living time capsule of this terrible event and aftermath and to Astronuc and Borek for your great job moderating and adding to thread content.

It is still getting almost 10K a day.

There should be 540 pages and a few more posts when it passes 1 M. I'm guessing some time about 1700-1800 EDT. Not bad for 11.7 weeks (82 days) :bugeye:

So, are we expecting to see something like: 000234 for 1,000,234 views or 1000234 after the rollover ?

Rhody...

P.S. Astro, how many new people would you estimate learned about our awesome site from this tragic event ? and second, how many new members (as opposed to the normal influx) have joined in the last 82 days ?

Many thanks to the engineers at the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear facility for making this possible.

Lol. Thats unfair, tell the truth - you have changed the frequency at which the counters are updated?

I expected new results in about 15 minutes.

Ok, I have my answer, we can and do show 7 digits, so in the big picture scheme of things, is this some kind of record for fastest growing thread for a not for profit forum ? and no wise *** remarks from you, Mr Synder. I wonder if we can accommodate 10 million hits next, got to thing big folks, got to think big.

The Japan Earthquake: nuclear plants thread is only 11.7 weeks or 82 days old, with an average post rate of 105 posts/day. I don't know if the post rate is a record, but I believe the viewing rate, 12,212/day (average) is a record. It has slowed down substantially from the peaks in March and April.

  • #119
That is...

almost 12,000 views per day.

The next runner up doesn't even clear 400...

  • #120
Question is, how will the average views per day look like in a year from now. Most likely (and hopefully) it will go down when the situation gets really stable.
