SUMMARY

The discussion focuses on calculating the moment of force P, which is 300N at an angle of 30 degrees, about point O. Participants clarify the use of the cosine and sine laws in the calculations. A correction is made regarding the angle, confirming that the angle should be 60 degrees with respect to the vertical for accurate component analysis. The x-component of the force is defined as Fcosθ, where θ is the angle from the +x axis.

PREREQUISITES
  • Understanding of vector components in physics
  • Familiarity with the cosine and sine laws
  • Knowledge of moment calculations in mechanics
  • Basic trigonometry skills
NEXT STEPS
  • Study the principles of static equilibrium in mechanics
  • Learn about calculating moments in 2D systems
  • Explore advanced applications of the cosine and sine laws
  • Review examples of force decomposition in engineering problems
USEFUL FOR

Students in engineering or physics courses, particularly those studying mechanics and force analysis, as well as educators looking for examples of moment calculations.

Note that the angle is with respect to the vertical. I think you may have mixed up Fax and Fay.

Yeah I noticed that. I should use 60 degrees instead I guess

Yes. The x-component is Fcosθ, where θ is the angle with respect to the +x axis.
