SUMMARY

The discussion centers on the contrasting effects of global dimming and global warming. Global dimming, caused by human-made pollutants, has been shown to decrease temperatures by creating reflective clouds. A 15% reduction in global dimming could significantly increase warming rates, highlighting the urgency of addressing air pollution. The conversation references NOVA's coverage and scientific literature that supports these claims.

PREREQUISITES
  • Understanding of climate science concepts, specifically global dimming and global warming.
  • Familiarity with the role of aerosols and pollutants in atmospheric science.
  • Knowledge of temperature measurement trends over decades.
  • Ability to interpret scientific literature related to climate change.
NEXT STEPS
  • Research the impact of aerosols on climate, focusing on specific pollutants.
  • Explore the findings of the NOVA episode on global dimming.
  • Read the referenced scientific paper on Earth's reflectance changes.
  • Investigate mitigation strategies for reducing air pollution and its effects on climate.
USEFUL FOR

This discussion is beneficial for climate scientists, environmental policy makers, and anyone interested in understanding the complexities of climate change and its dual aspects of warming and dimming.

I was watching NOVA the other day and it had a show on GLobal Dimming.
The idea that human made dust like pollutants would make clouds into super mirrors which would make temperature go down. Yet this contradicts Global Warming which raises Earth's average temperature by .8every 50 years or something.
Now it proved that G.Dimming had a strong effect by showing that 15% decrease in G.Dimming would boost temperatures (6*). So if you removed all of this G.D you would get a really high Warming Rate.
What are your opinions?
