What would be a good global temperature?

In summary, the conversation discussed the topic of global temperature and its potential impact. The participants considered the possibility of changing the global climate and the argument surrounding CO2 and anthropogenic warming. They also discussed the statement made by Russian President Putin, who viewed global warming as a positive development for agriculture in Siberia. This viewpoint received backlash from the international community, leading to threats of sanctions. The conversation also referenced a graph of ocean sediment from 5.5 million years ago, showing temperatures 1-2 degrees Celsius above the present. Additionally, a website was mentioned that presented the IPCC report on the potential benefits and drawbacks of increased global temperature compared to the period of 1980-1999. Finally, the conversation briefly touched on the potential

For the moment, ignoring whether or not we can change the global climate, completely ignoring the CO2 and anthropogenic warming argument, what would be a good global temperature?

Russian President Putin once said that global warming was a good thing because then they could grow crops in Siberia. The rest of the international community was pretty mad at him and threatened sanctions. He was quiet after that.

This graph of ocean sediment from 5.5. million years http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Temperature_record#mediaviewer/File:Five_Myr_Climate_Change.svg
shows what the global temperature was during earlier years of homo sapiens. We've been here 6-8 million years. That graph shows temperatures about 1-2 degrees Celsius above present.

This site http://www.skepticalscience.com/global-warming-positives-negatives-advanced.htm shows IPCC report of postulated pros and cons of increased temperature over that of 1980-1999.

What are the pros and cons of decreased temperature from 1980-1999?

What would be a good global temperature?

1. What is the ideal global temperature?

The ideal global temperature is a matter of debate among scientists and environmental advocates. However, most agree that it should be no more than 2 degrees Celsius above pre-industrial levels to prevent catastrophic effects of climate change.

2. Why is it important to maintain a good global temperature?

A good global temperature is important because it supports a stable and healthy environment for all living organisms on Earth. A rise in temperature can lead to extreme weather events, sea level rise, and loss of biodiversity, which can have devastating impacts on human societies.

3. What factors influence global temperature?

Global temperature is influenced by a variety of factors, including natural cycles, human activities such as burning fossil fuels and deforestation, and changes in the Earth's orbit and tilt. However, the main driver of current global warming is human-induced greenhouse gas emissions.

4. What are the potential consequences of a high global temperature?

A high global temperature can lead to a range of consequences, including more frequent and severe heatwaves, droughts, and wildfires, as well as stronger and more destructive hurricanes and typhoons. It can also cause melting of polar ice caps, leading to sea level rise and displacement of coastal communities.

5. What can be done to achieve a good global temperature?

To achieve a good global temperature, we need to significantly reduce global greenhouse gas emissions. This can be done through a combination of strategies, including transitioning to renewable energy sources, improving energy efficiency, and implementing sustainable land use practices. It also requires international cooperation and individual actions to reduce our carbon footprint.
