The discussion centers around the unavailability of the WAV file "daisy.wav" on Frogstar.com, managed by Jeff Goebel, who hosts over 2000 sound files. Users expressed frustration over the broken link while Goebel clarified that his files should not be directly linked from other sites to avoid bandwidth costs. He encourages users to visit his site directly to access the files. Additionally, participants shared personal anecdotes about using sound clips from the 2001: A Space Odyssey soundtrack for their computer sounds.
PREREQUISITESThis discussion is beneficial for web developers, sound designers, and anyone interested in managing audio files on websites while understanding copyright implications.
OOPS! That didn't work!
You tried to play the sound file: daisy.wav
This sound file is no longer available from the website you visited.
You can find it and listen to it at http://frogstar.com/wav
I do not allow other web sites or forums to use my collection of sound or media files this way.
My name is Jeff Goebel. I run a website called Frogstar which has over 2000 sound files.
It personally costs me a fair chunk of cash each month to provide my collection of sound and media.
When somebody tries to use these files without giving me credit, they're costing me money I get no benefit.
Sorry. It probably isn't your fault. You're probably just trying to hear a theme song, or funny movie quote. I'm not blaming you.
You can still play, or download the file you were looking for.
There are a lot of cool sounds at http://frogstar.com/wav
If you're creating a web site, you can even re-post it on your site if you wish to. Then it'll be your bandwidth. I claim no ownership of the files themselves. They're ALL stolen from somewhere. I only claim ownership of the collection, and where they reside on the Internet. If you want them, take them... just don't play them directly from my site.

Greg, I wouldn't start to worry unless you start on the upgrade and your machine asks you, "What are you doing, Greg?"![]()
I was hopeful that upgrading would change my title to a Super Mentor[/color]! Somehow that means "PF is gone!". But it didn't happen!Moonbear said:![]()
If PF is gone in the morning, we'll know what happened.

I think it was in Windows 95, but maybe it was way back in Windows 3.11 that they had those wav files as options for the sounds, so I had those, along with the StarTrek sounds (the doors opening and closing accompanied opening and closing a window or application).Janus said:Funny you should mention that. A couple of years ago I got the 2001 soundtrack on CD. Included were clips of all the conversations with HAL. So I put the CD in my computer and used edited sections of those clips for the sounds for my computer.
So for the Exclamation sound I got "What are you doing Dave?"
For the Program Error sound I got " I'm afraid that I can't do that, Dave"
And for windows shut down I got a few bars of HAL singing "Daisy"
