AI Thread Summary
The discussion centers around a spinning blue plastic object observed in a MIT physics lecture, which appears to spin in reverse after stopping. Participants identify this object as a rattleback, a toy known for its unique behavior due to its asymmetrical shape. The rattleback's motion is explained as a result of its design, which allows it to reverse direction when spun. A link to a commercial source for purchasing rattlebacks is also provided. The phenomenon is clarified as a well-understood physical principle rather than a mystery.

Help me!A spinning blue plastic object made me sleepless.

I've seen the mit online vedio course Physics I: Classical Mechanics Lecture 21 Torques, Oscillating Bodies, near the end 44:19.There is a spinning blue plastic object, the teacher spun it, it revolved then it stoped, then it revolved reversely without any other force!

WHY?

That is weird.

Haven't seen the video, but it sounds like a rattleback:

Nifty little toy. However, nothing really mysterious about it.

Thank you! That's it.Rattleback.

So I know that electrons are fundamental, there's no 'material' that makes them up, it's like talking about a colour itself rather than a car or a flower. Now protons and neutrons and quarks and whatever other stuff is there fundamentally, I want someone to kind of teach me these, I have a lot of questions that books might not give the answer in the way I understand. Thanks
