Hi, magnetic properties question please.

SUMMARY

The discussion focuses on the magnetic properties of loudspeaker magnets and compass needles, specifically their permeability and remanence. Loudspeaker magnets are characterized by their strong magnetic fields and minimal change in strength under external applied fields. In contrast, compass needles prioritize stability over strength, requiring sufficient remanence to maintain their directional properties. Both types of magnets are classified as permanent magnets.

PREREQUISITES
  • Understanding of magnetic permeability
  • Knowledge of magnetic remanence
  • Familiarity with permanent magnet types
  • Basic principles of electromagnetism
NEXT STEPS
  • Research the properties of permanent magnets
  • Explore the applications of magnetic permeability in electronics
  • Learn about the manufacturing processes of loudspeaker magnets
  • Investigate the design considerations for compass needles
USEFUL FOR

Students of physics, engineers in audio technology, and anyone interested in the practical applications of magnetic materials.

 Can anyone tell me the main attributes of:
a loud speaker magnet?
a compass needle?
In terms of permeability, remanence etc.
many thanks

these are both intended to be permanent magnets.
compass needles do not need to be strong, just stable.
speaker magnets should be strong (even with zero applied field), but
should not change strength very much even with an external applied field.

many thanks
