SUMMARY

The discussion focuses on estimating voltage and current thresholds for excitation using the Hodgkin-Huxley (HH) model in MATLAB. Participants clarify that the HH model does not have a definitive threshold, but various approximations can be made under specific conditions. The consensus emphasizes the importance of stating the conditions under which these estimates are applicable. This understanding is crucial for accurately simulating action potentials in neural modeling.

PREREQUISITES

Homework Statement

Hello everyone,

I am starting my homework and I have to create a simulation using MATLAB and before I begin I want to clarify a few questions.

Part A) wants me to estimate the voltage threshold for excitation.

The way I interpret this is to find the smallest value when the action potential is reached.

Part B wants me to do the same thing but for the current.

What do you guys think?

Yes. The HH model does not have a true theshold, so various thresholds are useful approximations under certain circumstances. When you give your answer, if you can, state under what conditions your estimate might be useful.
