Homework Questions: When to Post in Subforum

AI Thread Summary
Threads should be posted in the homework subforum if they involve academic assistance rather than general discussion of principles or methods. Questions related to coursework or textbook material, even if not tied to a specific assignment, belong in the homework forum. If there's uncertainty about where to post, it's acceptable to reach out to mentors for guidance. Ambiguous threads are generally not a concern if the poster has made an effort to choose the appropriate forum. Proper categorization helps maintain the clarity and organization of discussions.

How do we know wether to put our threads in the homework subforum from any other section. I had a question about blood pressure that wasn't related to any homework yet my thread was moved.

If the question involves something along the lines of academic assistance rather than a discussion of the principle or methods involved with etc. then the question will be best posted in the homework forums. I wouldn't worry too much about threads that seem ambiguous. If you've tried your best to pick the correct forum then I don't think the mentors can complain. You could private message any online in future to ask their opinion about a thread you wish to post that you're very unsure about.

Any question that is a coursework TYPE question should go in the homework and coursework forum. If it's related to something you're reading in a textbook, even if you're not doing it for a class or assignment, it still should go in the HW and coursework forum.

I had something I wanted the scientific community to know and slipped a new idea in against the rules. Thank you also to @berkeman for suggesting paths to meet with academia. Anyway, I finally got a paper on the same matter as discussed in those forum threads, the fat lens model, got it peer-reviewed, and IJRAP...
About 20 years ago, in my mid-30s (and with a BA in economics and a master's in business), I started taking night classes in physics hoping to eventually earn the science degree I'd always wanted but never pursued. I found physics forums and used it to ask questions I was unable to get answered from my textbooks or class lectures. Unfortunately, work and life got in the way and I never got further the freshman courses. Well, here it is 20 years later. I'm in my mid-50s now, and in a...
