How did Gauss experimentally discover his law for magnetism?

Does anyone have any clue on how Gauss experimented on his law for magnetism?

The experiment he did to find the magnetic flux

Any help will be appreciated

Aren't Gauss's laws for Electricity and magnetism more mathematical results than experimental observations? Because magnetic monopoles don't exist we can see that the flux will be zero through any closed surface. Maybe I am wrong and he did do experiments.

Yeah, i was just reading about Gauss turning it into a mathematical equation

Is he continuing what Michael Faraday did not finish?
