How do I get LaTeX to put the infinity on top of the SUM symboL

Click For Summary
SUMMARY

The discussion focuses on formatting a power series in LaTeX, specifically placing the infinity symbol above the summation symbol. The correct syntax to achieve this is using the command \sum_{k=0}^\infty a_k x^k. This ensures that the lower limit k=0 appears beneath the summation while the upper limit \infty is positioned above it, adhering to standard mathematical notation.

PREREQUISITES
  • Basic understanding of LaTeX syntax
  • Familiarity with mathematical notation in LaTeX
  • Knowledge of power series representation
  • Experience with LaTeX document preparation
NEXT STEPS
  • Research LaTeX environments for mathematical typesetting
  • Learn about LaTeX commands for summation and limits
  • Explore advanced LaTeX formatting options for equations
  • Study LaTeX packages that enhance mathematical typesetting
USEFUL FOR

Students, mathematicians, and researchers who need to format mathematical expressions in LaTeX, particularly those working with power series and summation notation.

I need to make a power series in LaTex that looks like this
u = \Sigma^{\infty}_{k=0} a_kx^k

But I wan the infinity on top of the sum and the k=0 on the bottom like normal setting out but I can't find out how to do it?
Hopefully someone from here can show me! Thanks

Use "sum" instead of "Sigma":

u= \sum_{k=0}^\infty a_kx^k

thanks!
