Homework Statement


Calculate the volume of water, in milliliters, that would be displaced by 1.82 grams of cobalt, when cobalt's density is 8.9 g mL^-1.


Homework Equations


Density = m/v
Volume = m/d



The Attempt at a Solution


volume = m/d
Volume= 1.82 g/8.9 g mL^-1
Volume = 0.204 mL^-1?

I'm honestly stumped. Hopefully someone has some sort of idea of how to solve this.

I think your correct :). Because the object is totally submerged (density of Cobalt is greater than that of water), it displaces a volume in liquid equal to the volume of itself.

For future reference, the mass of liquid displaced is also equal to the mass of the object itself.
