AI Thread Summary
The discussion centers around the humorous and somewhat absurd practice of dressing pets in clothing, particularly focusing on two Russian Blue cats seen wearing tight red t-shirts. Participants express amusement at the sight, noting the cats' discomfort and embarrassment. There is a strong sentiment against pet clothing, with some suggesting it indicates a troubling trend, such as encroaching spinsterhood. The conversation shifts to a broader critique of the pet fashion industry, including gourmet pet food and pet massage services, with some participants expressing disbelief at the money spent on such items. Others share anecdotes about their own pets and the appropriateness of clothing based on weather conditions. The dialogue also touches on the impact of domestic cats on wildlife, highlighting concerns about their presence in natural habitats. Overall, the thread blends humor with serious commentary on pet care and the societal implications of pet ownership practices.

I am looking downstairs at my neighbor's patio. She has two 20+ lb. Russian Blue cats, and they are sitting there in matching red t-shirts. I don't know why I find this so amusing. Maybe it's because the cats are stuffed into too-small t-shirts like sausages. Both have huge pot-bellies that are straining the fabric. They seem slightly embarrassed.

I'm convinced that dressing up your pets is one of the warning signs of encroaching spinsterhood.

Dear god, some people need to be shot.

Not to far from where I live there is a shop dedicated entirely to selling pet clothing, gourmet pet food and treats...and I'm pretty sure it was advertising for pet massage to. I can't believe some people will actually waste their money on crap like that.

This is just wrong:

If you think those are bad, think of the humiliation of a dog being dressed as a mouse!

I like Disney, but even I won't subject a pet to that extent... but then again, I don't have a dog, and there are no pet costumes for saltwater tropical fish. :)

And yomamma, that poofy feline Gabor sister is definitely not my cat!

Tragically, only a few days after this photo was taken, Buster's owner took a fatal tumble down a flight of stairs.

I think these pictures are quite cute. Not disturbing. Well, maybe that one with the Chihuahua in it.

My dogs have short hair so I put little sweaters on them when it's cold. They seem to like it.

Just how cold does it get in Miami?

Today it was in the mid 60s, but during the winter time it can get in the 40s.

I WANT to enjoy the wild birds that are attracted to my gardens, I don't want cat urine killing my plants, or having them digging up the garden, or finding their feces while I'm working in the garden.
Moonie, you need a fisher living in your neighborhood. Their primary prey is porcupines, but they also snack on cats. My wife and I lived in an old rented farmhouse about 25 years ago, there was a large stand of mature hemlock on the lower 150 acres. Lots of porcupines meant a stable population of fishers and not much of a cat problem. Thanks to the fishers, entire populations of rabbits, chipmunks, and ground-nesting birds got at least a bit of a break. That road is lined with big new houses now and much of the natural habitat is gone. I haven't spent any time back there, but I would venture that there are probably not many partridge, rabbits, wrens, etc anymore. Domestic cats do not belong in the wild and inflict terrible damage on wildlife diversity.

To lighten things up, here is last year's Xmas card from my cousin and his wife. Their terrier is a very smart little fellow. When they got him a Shreck "Donkey", he showed very little interest in it, so Jeff made it look like Donkey was going after Sparky's favorite rubber bone, and Sparky immediately grabbed Donkey by the crotch and started flailing him around violently. After that, Sparky would try to inflict that same type of damage on Donkey every time he was within his reach. Sparky is quite obedient and posed grudgingly for the picture, but it's easy to tell he wasn't real happy about it.

Oh, lordy, Turbo! He really has his eye on that donkey!

Looks like he's thinking, "Just you wait, you no-good bone-stealing low-down jack-ass!"

He's not going to let poor donkey join in any reindeer games.

Yeah, Sparky's a pretty good fellow, but he's not going to forget the bone-stealing incident, especially when his "father" Jeff was complicit in the crime! He forgave Jeff with the first hug after "the incident", but Donkey gets no such consideration and cannot be left unguarded anywhere in terrier range.

I was thinking it should have the caption, "I'm going to knock that smile right off your face the moment they put that camera down."

 I moved the cat fight out. Sorry for derailing your thread, MIH. Everyone may resume laughing at pets dressed in funny costumes (or at their owners...whichever seems more appropriate).

This is what moonbear does to cats found around her house trying to go outside!

http://www.redbrush.net/images/kitten%20stick-up.jpg
(Pleaseeeeeeeee, don't shoot me again!)

The cat on her avtar is really shooting moonbear as she's out enjoying the garden, meanwhile the cat is locked inside on that nice sunny day! The irony!

Moonbie just needs to be assimilated. The right cat will come along sooner or later.

Speaking of which ... a friend of mine sent me an interesting tidbit of scientific research in which mice were infected with a certain fluke that impaired an instinctive cat-fearing center of their brains. (I'll try to dig this up if anyone is interested.) There was some speculation that cat-lovers are infected with this same parasite causing us to warm up to felines more readily than those who are not infected.

I think you have made an incredibly important biological discovery here. As everyone knows klingons and tribbles don't get along:

http://homepage.mac.com/m5comp/trekbits/trekpics/tribbles/tribbles_009.jpg
Notice that this Klingon is pretty much indistinguishable from a human.

The klingon spy was discovered in that episode due to the natural emnity between Klingons and tribbles. I feel certain it was in an attempt to innoculate themselves with a tribble-neutral parasite that the Klingons must have done something unfortunate to their DNA and suddenly, without explanation, all ended up looking like this:
