Few things happened recently:
1) About 100 or so drone attacks per year killing many terrorists as well civilians
2) A CIA contractor (Mr Davis) was bailed out from legal punishment after he murdered someone in Lahore (http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-south-asia-12305049) - he got out after paying blood money to the relatives.
3) US military carried out a ground operation in Pakistan killing Osama
4) US carried out a drone attack recently after #3 (http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-south-asia-13307509)
5) US development efforts (education) are failing both in Afghanistan and Pakistan

Not only civilian government is under fire but also military is receiving fire for admitting that it failed to see US helicopters on radar as well did not know of Osama presence (http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-south-asia-13311257).

Few dangerous implication I see is that both military and civilian government are losing support which might:
1) Make Pakistan more unstable
2) Make terrorists more popular

I don't see any good solution to the problems I highlighted other than
- finishing up the military business as soon as possible
- improve the development programs and make them more efficient

(Please avoid morality, justice, and emotional issues)

#5 is a sad thing. ( not emotional ... or ...ok ..it is )

I think it's one of the best hopes for the future. A Global general education and Global awareness education can only be a good thing, in my opinion.
Here and everywhere.

IMHO the biggest problem lies with the substandard education being given in the respective countries. Your 5th point is a very important one worht looking into

here's something else that is interesting. now that the USG has won the battle and taken out OBL, it may lose the war on economic development and management of petroleum resources.
