Discussion Character

  • Debate/contested

Main Points Raised

  • One participant questions if creativity is a necessary trait for engineers, expressing concern about their own lack of creativity and identifying as more book smart.
  • Another participant suggests that there is a diversity of roles within engineering, indicating that while some engineers are highly creative, others are essential for completing projects efficiently.
  • A participant expresses relief at the idea that imagination is not the sole requirement for becoming an engineer.
  • One comment emphasizes that stereotypes should not dictate career choices, encouraging individuals to pursue what makes them happy.
  • Another participant notes that while extreme creativity may not be necessary, some level of intuition or creativity is important for effective problem-solving in engineering.

Areas of Agreement / Disagreement

Participants express differing views on the necessity of creativity in engineering, with some suggesting it is important for certain roles while others argue that practical skills are equally valuable. The discussion remains unresolved regarding the extent to which creativity is essential.

Contextual Notes

Some contributions highlight the variability in engineering roles and the skills required, suggesting that definitions of creativity and its application in engineering may vary among participants.

There is room for different types of engineer. Some engineers are really creative, and that's great, but there is also a real need for people who are good at turning the crank and getting projects completed.

nice , i thought that only people who have imaginations only could become engineers thanks a lot

Stereotypes and notions don't matter. Do what makes you happy!

thanks man

While you do not need to be super creative, some sort of intuition or creativity is certainly required (problem solving skills).
