Is it beneficial to have Pf translated into different languages?

AI Thread Summary
Translating Physics Forums (PF) into different languages has been considered, but challenges exist due to the requirement for English as the sole communication language, which facilitates moderation. While translation tools like Babelfish and Google Translate can assist users, implementing multiple languages would complicate moderation efforts. The time and resources needed to establish a multilingual platform are significant, with estimates ranging from two to six years for effective implementation. The current management style prioritizes English to maintain consistency and oversight. Overall, while there are potential benefits to translation, the logistical hurdles make it a complex issue.

I was wondering if anyone has made this recommendation in the past. I did advanced search but didn't come up with any results.

I think there are some incentives in putting it in different languages (only need awful amount of time?) because most websites do that:
http://answers.yahoo.com/
and all corporations etc.

If you read the https://www.physicsforums.com/showthread.php?t=5374", you would have noticed that English is the requirement for posting on here. Since this forum is highly moderated, and English is the only language that is in common with all the Mentors and Administrators, it is why we have made English the only language of communication on PF.

Zz.

Root, people can easily translate a website via babelfish or alike. However if we start allowing other languages, how could we moderate them?

Yep, I agree it is very hard to do that with current management style.
I knew about it before starting this thread that's why I said "awful amount of time" - 2 to ~6 years to get them to this stage

I also use google trans to get information from some arabic, russian, and asian sites(works good so far )

I want to thank those members who interacted with me a couple of years ago in two Optics Forum threads. They were @Drakkith, @hutchphd, @Gleb1964, and @KAHR-Alpha. I had something I wanted the scientific community to know and slipped a new idea in against the rules. Thank you also to @berkeman for suggesting paths to meet with academia. Anyway, I finally got a paper on the same matter as discussed in those forum threads, the fat lens model, got it peer-reviewed, and IJRAP...
About 20 years ago, in my mid-30s (and with a BA in economics and a master's in business), I started taking night classes in physics hoping to eventually earn the science degree I'd always wanted but never pursued. I found physics forums and used it to ask questions I was unable to get answered from my textbooks or class lectures. Unfortunately, work and life got in the way and I never got further the freshman courses. Well, here it is 20 years later. I'm in my mid-50s now, and in a...
