Is it possible for electric flight packs to exist like jets?

SUMMARY

Electric flight packs, similar to jetpacks, can potentially utilize electric motors to generate thrust for human flight. Current technology, particularly advancements in drone design with multiple small propellers, is paving the way for more effective wingless flight systems. Prototype all-electric aircraft are already undergoing flight tests, indicating significant progress in this area. However, simply replacing jet engines with electric motors without additional lift mechanisms will not suffice for human-sized loads.

PREREQUISITES
  • Understanding of electric motor mechanics
  • Familiarity with drone technology and multi-rotor systems
  • Knowledge of aerodynamics related to lift generation
  • Awareness of current electric aircraft prototypes and their specifications
NEXT STEPS
  • Research advancements in drone technology for human flight applications
  • Explore the principles of aerodynamics in relation to electric propulsion
  • Investigate existing all-electric aircraft prototypes and their performance metrics
  • Study the mechanics of thrust generation in electric motors and propeller systems
USEFUL FOR

Aerospace engineers, electric vehicle developers, aviation enthusiasts, and researchers interested in the future of personal flight technology.

In wingless flight packs, is it possible to replace jet / fuel engines with electric motors that fly in a similar way to jetpacks? Can electric motors also produce thrust required to lift a person upwards, enabling them to fly? If so, how would they work?

All an electric motor could do would be to rotate a fan or a propeller. Fan type flying devices exist but they don't work well for human sized loads. That is changing seriously with the advent of drones with multiple small propellers. All-electric airplanes are, I think, on the drawing boards.

You seem to believe it might be possible to have nothing but the motor in place of the jet pack. That would do ZERO to create lift.
