Discussion Overview

The discussion revolves around the concept of gravity lifts, exploring whether there is any scientific merit to the idea or if it remains purely in the realm of science fiction. Participants express varying levels of understanding about gravity and its mechanisms, as well as their interest in researching the topic further.

Discussion Character

  • Exploratory
  • Debate/contested
  • Conceptual clarification

Main Points Raised

  • One participant inquires about ongoing research into gravity lifts and expresses a desire to learn more about gravity itself.
  • Another participant seeks clarification on what is meant by "gravity lift."
  • A different participant describes gravity lifts as a means to ascend without jet propulsion, suggesting a field that could nullify or direct the effects of gravity.
  • One participant dismisses the concept as currently being science fiction.
  • Another suggests that understanding dark energy could be key to developing gravity lift technology, mentioning NASA's ongoing research in related areas.
  • A participant proposes that creating a large mass above could theoretically pull someone up, while noting the reciprocal effect on Earth.
  • One participant shares a hypothesis that gravity might be related to low-frequency waves on the electromagnetic spectrum, expressing uncertainty about their understanding of physics.

Areas of Agreement / Disagreement

Participants express a mix of skepticism and curiosity regarding the feasibility of gravity lifts. There is no consensus on the validity of the concept, with some viewing it as science fiction while others explore theoretical possibilities.

Contextual Notes

Participants acknowledge their limited understanding of gravity and its mechanisms, which may affect the depth of their contributions. Some ideas presented may lack rigorous scientific backing and are influenced by popular science.

Who May Find This Useful

Individuals interested in the theoretical aspects of gravity, speculative technologies, or those looking to engage with unconventional ideas in physics may find this discussion relevant.

Is there any research being done towards the concept of a gravity lift?

Is this purely a sci-fi idea or is there merit to it?

I haven't the slightest idea how gravity works or what the source of the force is, but I'd like to learn more.

What is "gravity lift"?

I don't know how it's supposed to work or if any authors ever bothered to explain it, but it's basically a means to lift off Earth without using jet propulsion. You step into a field that somehow nulls or directs the affect (strength?) of gravity and you drift up, towards the sky.

Again, I have no idea how gravity works, it's something I hope to learn about and research eventually. I would, from this perspective, assume it is one of the lesser understood phenomena.

Anti-gravity. No, its just science fiction at this point.

All you need to do is figure out what dark energy is and how to generate it with sufficient strength. NASA is still doing related work in this area.

yep, if you can find a way to create a large lump of mass above you, it will pull you up, but then again, the Earth will be pulled too so...

I'm more interested in finding ways to deviate or interact with gravity. Of course, I have no idea how gravity works aside from the elementary, so it will definitely be an area of study for me.

I've imagined for some time now that gravity is a ultra low frequency on the electromagnetic spectrum, or that somewhere, somehow, it fits in.

basically, I hypothesize that gravity is a frequency so low that it would take hundreds of years to detect the peaks of the wave. This could be a very pseudointellecual thought as I have no real physics education, only pop-science and other laymen influences.
