SUMMARY

The discussion focuses on job opportunities in the US engineering market for graduates with a Master's degree in VLSI design. Key subjects from the curriculum include Low Power VLSI Design, CMOS Mixed Signal Circuit Design, and System on Chip Architectures. Despite concerns regarding the lack of a degree in Electrical Engineering, candidates with relevant coursework and skills in VLSI design are still eligible for positions in the field. States with strong job markets for VLSI professionals include California and Texas, known for their tech industries.

PREREQUISITES
  • Understanding of VLSI design principles and methodologies
  • Familiarity with CAD tools for VLSI design
  • Knowledge of digital signal processing concepts
  • Experience with embedded systems design
NEXT STEPS
  • Research job openings for VLSI design engineers in California and Texas
  • Explore CAD tools commonly used in VLSI design, such as Cadence or Synopsys
  • Learn about industry certifications that can enhance job prospects in VLSI
  • Investigate networking opportunities through VLSI design conferences and workshops

I have no clue about the engineering job market as I'm in IT, he's looking for guidance. What kind of job positions would he be eligible for in US and which state(s) is the best for this field? I have attached the undergrad curriculum. He did his Masters with VLSI design focus. His Masters coursework is as below:

1 YEAR 1 SEM SUBJECTS:

1.VLSI SUBJECT
2.CPLD&FPGA
3.CMOS ANALOG
4.CMOS DIGITAL
5.MESD(MICRO CONTROLLER EMBEDED SYSTEMS DESIGN)
6.DIGITAL SYSTEM DESIGN
LAB VLSI DESIGN CYCLE 1

1 YEAR 2 SEM SUBJECTS

1.LOW POWER VLSI DESIGN
2.CMOS MIXED SIGNAL CIRCUIT DESIGN
3.CAD FOR VLSI
4.DESIGN FOR TESTABILITY
5.DIGITAL SIGNAL PROCESSORS AND ARCHITECTURES
6.SYSTEM ON CHIP ARCHITECTURES
LAB VLSI DESIGN CYCLE 2

Last 2 semesters were projects. Any help is appreciated. His concern is because his degree is not in Electrical Engineering as it in USA, will it become a big obstacle to get a job in the engineering field.
