SUMMARY

The discussion focuses on the existence of published errata for the Landau and Lifshitz series of physics textbooks. Participants confirm that while minor notation errors exist, they are typically not significant enough to detract from the overall quality of the books. One user notes that they purchased the entire series 30 years ago and found errata pages in 2 out of 5 books, indicating that such corrections are infrequent. The consensus is that any errors are likely due to transcription rather than flaws in the original work.

PREREQUISITES
  • Familiarity with the Landau and Lifshitz series of physics textbooks.
  • Understanding of basic physics notation and terminology.
  • Experience with academic publishing and errata documentation.
  • Knowledge of the historical context of Landau's work in theoretical physics.
NEXT STEPS
  • Research the latest published errata for the Landau and Lifshitz series.
  • Explore community forums or academic resources discussing common errors in physics textbooks.
  • Investigate the impact of notation errors on learning outcomes in advanced physics.
  • Review additional resources or guides for studying the Landau and Lifshitz series effectively.
USEFUL FOR

Physics students, educators, and researchers who are studying or teaching the Landau and Lifshitz series and wish to understand potential errors and their implications on learning.

Hi everyone,

I am currently going through L&L slowly but surely (it's like 1 page Landau = 5 pages of notes/connections). I was wondering if anyone knew if there were any published errata for the series. Haven't found any in my Google searches. What I'm talking about is usually notational and can typically figure out where things go awry but would like a heads up as I go through the books (unless it's intentional for the learning process lol).

I bought the whole series about 30 years ago. I'd say that 2 out of 5 books had inserted one loose page of errata. These corrections were very minor, usually a small notation error. I wouldn't worry about them. The books are great otherwise.

Yes, I like it cold... 🙃

If there are errors in the textbooks it's of course not Landau who's wrong but whoever wrote his dictate down.
