Homework Help Overview

The problem involves a rotating turntable where the speed of a point changes from rest to a specified velocity over a given time. Participants are tasked with finding both the tangential and total acceleration at a specific moment in time.

Discussion Character

  • Exploratory, Conceptual clarification, Mathematical reasoning

Approaches and Questions Raised

  • Some participants mention known formulas related to circular motion, such as those for tangential and centripetal acceleration, while questioning their applicability to the problem. Others discuss the need to determine the speed at the specified time to calculate the tangential acceleration.

Discussion Status

The discussion is ongoing, with participants exploring different aspects of the problem and sharing their understanding of relevant formulas. There is no explicit consensus yet, but some guidance has been offered regarding the relationship between speed and acceleration.

Contextual Notes

Participants are navigating the constraints of the problem, including the need to calculate values at a specific time and the implications of constant acceleration during the given time interval.

The speed of a point on a rotating turntable,
which is 0.131 m from the center, changes at a
constant rate from rest to 0.958 m/s in 1.95 s.
At t1 = 1.6 s, find the magnitude of the
tangential acceleration. Answer in units of
m/s2.

At t1 = 1.6 s, ¯find the magnitude of the total
acceleration of the point. Answer in units of
m/s2.

i know the formulas ... .

v = 2pi r/t

centripetal acceleration = v2/r

not sure if they help me on this one tho

changes at a constant rate from rest to 0.958 m/s in 1.95 s.
At t1 = 1.6 s, find the magnitude of the tangential acceleration.

So the rate is constant during the 1.95 s and one needs to find speed at 1.6 s and from this v2/r.

really? wow. I am just learning too... lol
