Discussion Overview

The discussion revolves around Leonard Susskind's video lectures on quantum mechanics, focusing on accessibility, content quality, and availability of resources. Participants share links to the lectures and express their experiences with viewing them.

Discussion Character

  • Exploratory, Technical explanation, Debate/contested

Main Points Raised

  • Some participants note that certain videos in the playlist are set to private, limiting access to the content.
  • Others report being able to watch all the videos, indicating a discrepancy in access among participants.
  • A participant mentions that all ten lectures are available as free iTunesU podcasts, suggesting alternative resources for those unable to access the videos.
  • Concerns are raised regarding the mathematical rigor of Susskind's lectures, with one participant stating they lack depth in expanding on concepts.
  • Another participant expresses appreciation for the availability of the lectures, highlighting the scarcity of quantum mechanics resources online.

Areas of Agreement / Disagreement

Participants do not reach a consensus on the accessibility of the videos, as some can view them while others cannot. There is also a divergence of opinion regarding the depth and rigor of the lectures.

Contextual Notes

Some participants mention missing videos and the potential limitations of the content in terms of mathematical rigor and conceptual expansion.

Who May Find This Useful

Individuals interested in quantum mechanics, particularly those seeking video lectures or alternative learning resources.

They're set to private dx. A shame because they look and excellent resource.

(Must study scientific method). Its one of those days today.

what do you mean? I was able to watch all of them.

The first lecture video says its a private video and I can't watch. The others seem ok though.

From what I can tell, that listing is missing a video, too. All ten lectures are available as free iTunesU podcasts, as are Susskind's classical mechanics and special relativity lectures. I haven't watched them yet (on my to do list!), but just by looking at the lengths of the videos, it seems like a rather short class, with only 20 hours...Of course, it is called the "theoretical minimum" and is meant for continuing studies students.

The link on the play list doesn't seem to work but if you search for "leonard susskind quantum mechanics 1" on youtube and click on it there it works.

wow, this is great. I wasl looking for video lectures on quantum mechanics. Thanks for the link

His lectures aren't as mathematically rigorous as they should be and he doesn't really expand on any concepts. It's the only set of quantum mechanics lectures on the web though, so beggers can't be choosers.
