AI Thread Summary
The discussion proposes creating a live chat feature for the PF community to facilitate direct communication among users and with forum administrators. Multiple chats could be hosted by different admins or mentors, allowing users to join based on availability. The suggestion aims to enhance community engagement and interaction. However, the current forum structure prioritizes moderation and archiving challenges, which complicate the implementation of expanded chat services. Despite this, regular chat sessions are already held on Sundays and holidays.

To whomever it may concern,
I got a thought a while ago but didn't know where to post it until i was recently informed of this category.
I'll get right to the point:
It'll be a good idea to create a "chat" where online users can talk to one another live on a chat bar that can be hosted by an admin or so. There wouldn't be only be 1 chat but many hosted by several admins/mentors...etc. A user could just check for available chats and who's the host of it then join.
I think it's a good idea since it helps bring closer the PF community as a whole for it allows direct communication with users among themselves and with the people in charge of this forum.
While i acknowledge that admins have a lot of work regarding this website other than adding a new idea, i think it's an idea worth considering.
Thank You.

Thanks for the suggestion. The reason we don't have expanded chat services is because it's more difficult to moderate, archive and the fact that we are a forum community :) We do have chat every sunday and most holidays though :)

Ok, thanks for the quick response :)

I want to thank those members who interacted with me a couple of years ago in two Optics Forum threads. They were @Drakkith, @hutchphd, @Gleb1964, and @KAHR-Alpha. I had something I wanted the scientific community to know and slipped a new idea in against the rules. Thank you also to @berkeman for suggesting paths to meet with academia. Anyway, I finally got a paper on the same matter as discussed in those forum threads, the fat lens model, got it peer-reviewed, and IJRAP...
This came up in my job today (UXP). Never thought to raise it here on PF till now. Hyperlinks really should be underlined at all times. PF only underlines them when they are rolled over. Colour alone (especially dark blue/purple) makes it difficult to spot a hyperlink in a large block of text (or even a small one). Not everyone can see perfectly. Even if they don't suffer from colour deficiency, not everyone has the visual acuity to distinguish two very close shades of text. Hover actions...
About 20 years ago, in my mid-30s (and with a BA in economics and a master's in business), I started taking night classes in physics hoping to eventually earn the science degree I'd always wanted but never pursued. I found physics forums and used it to ask questions I was unable to get answered from my textbooks or class lectures. Unfortunately, work and life got in the way and I never got further the freshman courses. Well, here it is 20 years later. I'm in my mid-50s now, and in a...
