SUMMARY

The discussion revolves around creating a device that lowers a small object using an action-reaction mechanism, specifically by utilizing weight in a bucket, likely water. Participants suggest using a block and tackle system to facilitate this mechanism, referencing its effectiveness in similar applications. The conversation also touches on the importance of visualizing the design by drawing it out and hosting images externally to avoid administrative delays. Overall, the focus is on practical applications of physics in device creation.

PREREQUISITES
  • Understanding of basic physics principles, specifically gravity and force.
  • Familiarity with mechanical systems, particularly block and tackle mechanisms.
  • Basic skills in drawing and visual representation of mechanical designs.
  • Knowledge of weight distribution and its effects on movement.
NEXT STEPS
  • Research the mechanics of block and tackle systems for effective weight lowering.
  • Explore design software for creating mechanical device schematics.
  • Investigate the principles of action-reaction in physics to enhance device functionality.
  • Look into practical applications of gravity-based mechanisms in game design.
USEFUL FOR

This discussion is beneficial for inventors, game designers, and physics enthusiasts interested in creating interactive devices that utilize mechanical principles for user engagement.

Hello
I'm looking into ideas to make a device which can lower a small object which is at a certain distance from the ground. I was thinking of it being lowered by the action of putting some sort of weight in some sort of bucket (likely water as weight).

I just can't think of how to make it happen yet. Ideas?

Does anyone have any good websites with sort of action-reaction kind of devices? I'm doing games based on mechanisms which require some action by the user to get the desired result.

Think movies Saw but less gory!

Thanks

A device that lowers something else under the influence of gravity--maybe an anvil? :-p (Think Loony Tunes)

On a more serious note, perhaps you can draw up what you're looking for (and then host the image elsewhere, e.g. TinyPic--this avoids your image having to be pre-approved by an administrator first). I'd have to think some kind of block and tackle:
