Mixing Light Colors: Is There a Theory?

Click For Summary
SUMMARY

The discussion centers on the phenomenon where a purple object appears black under certain lighting conditions. Specifically, it addresses the theory of color mixing, particularly subtractive and additive color models. The participants reference the Wikipedia articles on subtractive color and additive color to explore how different light colors affect the perception of purple objects. Understanding these theories is essential for comprehending how light interacts with colored surfaces.

PREREQUISITES
  • Understanding of additive color theory
  • Familiarity with subtractive color theory
  • Basic knowledge of color perception
  • Awareness of light spectrum and its effects on color
NEXT STEPS
  • Research the principles of additive color mixing in detail
  • Explore the implications of subtractive color mixing in art and design
  • Study the effects of different light sources on color perception
  • Investigate the psychological effects of color in various lighting conditions
USEFUL FOR

This discussion is beneficial for artists, designers, educators, and anyone interested in the science of color theory and its practical applications in lighting and visual arts.

OP warned about not using the HH template
the problem is
the purple object will seem to be black if the object is illuminated by what color of light?

i want to know if there is a theory that discuss about this, or the mixing of light color.
Thank you for your help
