Discussion Character

  • Technical explanation, Debate/contested, Experimental/applied

Main Points Raised

  • One participant seeks a solution for MP3 video files freezing in Windows Movie Maker and mentions quality loss when converting MP3 files to WMV format.
  • Another participant clarifies that MPEG Layer 3 (MP3) only supports audio and questions whether the user has an AVI container with an MP3 soundtrack and a video track, asking about the compression used on the video track.
  • A suggestion is made to use VirtualDub alongside AVISynth for video editing and conversion, with the potential to convert to uncompressed AVI.
  • Another participant recommends WinFF as a user-friendly alternative for video conversion, noting it is a front-end to ffmpeg.
  • A different approach is suggested, involving updating video drivers and Windows updates, as well as clearing temporary files to potentially resolve the freezing issue.

Areas of Agreement / Disagreement

Participants present multiple competing views on how to address the issue, with no consensus on a single solution or approach. Various software options and methods are proposed, reflecting differing preferences and experiences.

Contextual Notes

Some limitations include the lack of clarity on the specific video file formats and compression methods being used, as well as the potential impact of software compatibility on the freezing issue.

Is there any way to fix this? I tried converting the mp3 files to wmv files last night, but it reduces the picture quality by a lot so the picture quality looks all fuzzy. Is there any other free video editing software out there that supports mp3 video files?

MPEG Layer 3 only supports audio frames. Do you mean you have an AVI container with an MP3 soundtrack and some type of video track? If so, what is the compression on the video track?
Try using VirtualDub in combination with http://avisynth.org/mediawiki/Main_Page . If anything, AVISynth should allow you to convert your video file to uncompressed AVI.

While I like VirtualDub and http://avisynth.org/mediawiki/Main_Page for editing video,
...for converting video, you might be happy with WinFF, which is a front-end to ffmpeg.

Try updating your video drivers and any Window updates. Then clear all your temp files.
