National Physics Olympiad Practical Round

Click For Summary
SUMMARY

The discussion focuses on preparing for the practical round of a national physics Olympiad, distinct from the International Physics Olympiad (IPhO). The user seeks advice on effective preparation strategies, areas of focus, and recommended resources, as their country does not release past papers for the national competition. They have a month to prepare, having recently completed the theory round. A reference link to a resource on IPhO preparation is provided, although its relevance to the national Olympiad is uncertain.

PREREQUISITES
  • Understanding of physics concepts relevant to practical experiments
  • Familiarity with previous IPhO and APhO papers for comparative study
  • Access to physics laboratory equipment and experimental techniques
  • Knowledge of problem-solving strategies in physics competitions
NEXT STEPS
  • Research practical physics experiment techniques relevant to Olympiad standards
  • Explore resources on national physics Olympiad preparation
  • Study previous IPhO and APhO practical problems for insights
  • Review physics textbooks focusing on experimental methods and laboratory practices
USEFUL FOR

Students preparing for national physics Olympiads, educators seeking to guide students in practical physics, and anyone interested in enhancing their experimental physics skills.

I realize questions about Olympiads have already been asked till death, but I think I haven't seen mine popping out anywhere, so here goes.

Does anyone have any ideas on how to prep for the practical round of a physics Olympiad (not the IPhO, a national one). I can get papers for the I & APhO, but not for the national one as my country does not release the papers. But in general, rather than simply doing the papers (which i already am), I would like some hints and advice on what areas to watch out for/ any prior practices or books I might want to look up, stuff like that. My theory round was just days ago, and the practical will be sometime mid November, so I have about a month to prep. Thanks!

Welcome to PF!

I searched via Google and came up with this reference:

but I'm not sure its what you are looking for. There are some additional references to other national olympiads to check out.

i am self learning physics. have you ever worked your way backwards again after finishing most undergrad courses? i have textbooks for junior/senior physics courses in classical mechanics, electrodynamics, thermal physics, quantum mechanics, and mathematical methods for self learning. i have the Halliday Resnick sophomore book. working backwards, i checked out Conceptual Physics 11th edition by Hewitt and found this book very helpful. What i liked most was how stimulating the pictures...
