AI Thread Summary
A user sought help identifying a specific piece of lab equipment, a clamp with a thumbscrew on a movable stage, which they encountered in a collaborator's lab. Despite efforts to find it through various searches and contacting the lab's principal investigator, they were unsuccessful until they received suggestions to look for micromanipulator parts or clamp blocks. Ultimately, they discovered the equipment by searching for "micromanipulator parts," which led them to the correct identification of the device. The user expressed relief at the simplicity of the solution, having previously misunderstood the term "micromanipulators." This highlights the importance of precise terminology in lab equipment searches.

I visited the lab of some collaborators, and they had this device which exactly matches my needs in the lab I work in. Problem is, I can't find this thing anywhere. I emailed the PI of that lab, and he has no idea where it came from. It seems they bought it somewhere a while back and since then forgot all the details. I attached a couple images below. It's really just the top part that I'm interested in: some sort of clamp with a thumbscrew sitting on top of a movable stage so whatever you're clamping can move forward and backward.

What is this thing?? I don't know what it might be even called, so I'm not sure what to google for. I tried googling different things, I tried to reverse-image-search it, and got nothing. I emailed Thorlabs (because the other lab people initially told me it was from them), and the tech support person from Thorlabs told me they don't sell that. I'm stuck...

"Translational stages" (plural).

If its just the top part you want not the stage perhaps look for micromanipulator parts?

Or google clamp blocks?

Ohh! I found it! From google-image-searching "micromanipulator parts", the entire thing comes up, pretty much in the first line of images. I didn't realize it was all one part...

Thank you! It's so simple! I kind of thought "micromanipulators" were something else...

Hi all, I have a question. So from the derivation of the Isentropic process relationship PV^gamma = constant, there is a step dW = PdV, which can only be said for quasi-equilibrium (or reversible) processes. As such I believe PV^gamma = constant (and the family of equations) should not be applicable to just adiabatic processes? Ie, it should be applicable only for adiabatic + reversible = isentropic processes? However, I've seen couple of online notes/books, and...
Thread 'How can I find the cleanout for my building drain?'
I am a long distance truck driver, but I recently completed a plumbing program with Stratford Career Institute. In the chapter of my textbook Repairing DWV Systems, the author says that if there is a clog in the building drain, one can clear out the clog by using a snake augur or maybe some other type of tool into the cleanout for the building drain. The author said that the cleanout for the building drain is usually near the stack. I live in a duplex townhouse. Just out of curiosity, I...
